Starting in Rabaçal, this trail follows the Levada do Alecrim at 1300 meters above sea level until it reaches the spring at Ribeira do Lajeado. It’s an easy hike with wide views of the Rabaçal valley and Ribeira da Janela.
You’ll walk through a big forest called Laurissilva, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its beautiful greenery. Along the way, you’ll find unique heather tunnels that make the walk even more special.
The highlight of the hike is the spring of Levada do Alecrim, a waterway built to supply the Hydroelectric Power Plant of Calheta. There, you can take a break and refresh yourself at the ‘Dona Beja’ lake, which feeds the impressive Lagoa do Vento waterfall.
